The McGrail Vineyards and Winery, founded by Jim and Ginger McGrail, was planted in 1999 with the intent of producing the finest Cabernet grapes in the Livermore Valley as well as rival Cabernet grapes from the Napa Valley.
With the desire to produce the finest Cabernet, the vineyard uses a technique called green harvesting, which is pruning back and discarding a portion of the grapes on each vine before they ripen. After they ripen, the lower quality grapes are separated and dropped, leaving only the best grapes and less than four tons per acre for our wine. After harvest, the grapes are aged in French, American, and Russian Oak barrels for as many months necessary to produce the highest quality wine. Lastly, all three barrels are blended to produce the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in the Valley.
