Vineyard Notes

The McGrail Family Chardonnay is produced from a small Livermore Valley vineyard named Chandler Vineyard. This Vineyard is in the south-east portion of the Valley and is farmed to the highest standard.

Winemaking Style:

Our winemaker induces malolactic fermentation and Sur Lie ages this wine to create a round, creamy mouth feel with a touch of butter.  We barrel ferment and age in French, Hungarian, and American oak.

The Wine:

The 2012 McGrail Family Chardonnay was barrel fermented and Sur Lie aged for 12 months.  Stirring the lees weekly led to a full, creamy texture on the palate.  Lemon, lime, and apple are the first notes of the Chardonnay.  As the wine hits your palate, the cream and butter components come out.  This wine displays a beautiful balance between the fruit characteristics and the creamy, buttery oak notes. Enjoy this wine with a chicken marsala dish or on it’s own.
